All around us, bees are quietly working away to keep our ecosystems thriving while maintaining our food supply through pollination. Unfortunately they’re faced with ever growing challenges due to habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species (we’re looking at you murder hornets).

In order to raise awareness for the most hardworking of all insects, the UN has designated May 20 as World Bee Day, and recommends that we all take steps to ensure that we protect the health and wellbeing of these essential pollinators.

If you have a garden, they suggest planting more flowers, shrubs and trees that provide nectar and pollen as food for bees and other pollinators, along with herbs and veggies like lavender, basil, mint and tomatoes to attract them. If you come across a beehive, avoid disturbing or destroying nests or hibernating insects, especially in places like grass margins, bare soil, hedgerows, trees, dead wood or walls.

Buying local, organic fruit and veggies helps to support beekeepers in your area, as well as purchasing beauty products that use sustainably-produced honey as an ingredient. Not only is honey an ideal skincare ingredient due to its antibacterial properties, it also draws in moisture to provide a protective barrier in lip balms and cleansers.

This ancient skincare ingredient is still widely used today, and with so many amazing products to choose from, we’ve gathered some of our favourite bee-powered beauty products below.
