A Charming French-Style Chateau in New York’s Hudson Valley Hits the Market for $12.3 Million
The scenic beauty of New York’s Hudson Valley is only made more delightful by its array of small towns. Garrison, a Putnam County hamlet known for its river views, is one such charmer. Some might call it a nature-lovers oasis with a host of grand residences. And its newest $12.2 million listing, surrounded by protected woodlands, lives up to that billing.
Set on a hilltop, the sprawling estate at 41-61 Evarts Hill spans 50 acres in the upstate community. Dubbed “Reveille,” the French chateau-inspired home was built between 1927 and 1929 and has remained in care of the same family for nearly 100 years. Its main residence spans over 6,200 square feet with five bedrooms and an equal number of bathrooms, plus a power room. A carriage house and converted barn on the grounds also provide access to generously sized rooms for entertaining.

Reveille’s stony facade greets visitors at the top of a winding driveway. Through the arched entry stands the foyer, complete with a spiral three-story staircase. Nearby kitchen and formal dining spaces showcase the property’s attention to detail. The former houses stainless-steel appliances, one of which is a gas-range stovetop set atop a bright-yellow oven. A unique ceiling display offers a pleasing contrast to green marble wall displays in the dining room, but the easy access to the rose gardens is an even more appealing feature.
Elsewhere, the formal living room balances the home’s luxe appeal with its ties to nature, featuring a wood-burning fireplace and exposed wood-beam ceilings. Its salmon-hued walls might not be for everyone, but elegant French doors help to offset the bold color choice. A number of spacious bedrooms are spread out across the home, but it’s the primary suite that stars, with a large fireplace and en-suite bath featuring a soaking tub. Guests might alternatively enjoy freshening up in another standout bath that features black-tile walls and pinstripe wallpaper.

Lush gardens sprawl out along the backside of the home with a water fountain at its center. A greenery covered cabana, to the side of the fountain, provides shade from the sun. Stone terraces and flower beds surround the swimming pool, which comes into view before reaching the 4,000-square-foot carriage house. The converted barn, or outbuilding, with a brick fireplace completes the compound and doubles as the ideal place for a game of billiards.
Paula Redmond, Jason Karadus, and Marie-Claire Gladstone of Corcoran Country Living hold the listing.
