Chelsea home with links to Winnie-the-Pooh author AA Milne for sale
A Chelsea home next door to where AA Milne resided has just entered the property market.
According to English Heritage, AA Milne lived at 13 Mallord Street during the most creative years of his life, from 1919 to until about 1940. While living at the house he wrote both Winnie-the-Pooh books and two collections of poetry, When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six (1927).
Spending many years in flats, the Milne family referred to their home as 'the prettiest little house in London' and even welcomed their son, Christopher Robin, there.
Arranged over three floors, the low-built period house for sale has been tailored for family living. It offers five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a grand drawing room, a south-facing patio garden, and a lower ground floor with a media room, wine cellar and added storage. From entertaining to relaxing, it has something for everyone.
The light-filled entrance gives way to a large dining room that can comfortably sit between 12 and 14 people, while the hallway flows into the open-plan kitchen. Meanwhile, the principal bedroom suite overlooks the pretty garden and includes an ensuite bathroom with his-and-hers sinks.
The petite patio garden has been filled with lush planting, an outdoor sofa for relaxation, and raised planters. It might be small, but it certainly doesn't lack character.
Nestled in the heart of Chelsea, Mallord Street boasts a collection of Georgian and Victorian townhouses, complete with traditional red-brick facades and elegant architecture. The leafy street offers a serene retreat and is well-located for boutique shops, green spaces, gourmet restaurants, and cultural attractions along King's Road.
And the property doesn't come cheap either: it's currently on the market for £6,450,000 with Knight Frank.
