Step aside, strawberry girls, a new “it” food is taking over the beauty world. First, it was glazed donut nails and latte makeup. Then, it was blueberry milk nails. Now, the cherry cola aesthetic has popped up as the latest in a long line of food-themed beauty trends. This one in particular highlights a cozy burgundy color palette and serves as a deeper, sultrier alternative to the classic red that usually dominates the fall and winter seasons.
Unlike the cherry girl aesthetic, which features more of a cutesy, innocent look, cherry cola girls are edgier and carefree—kind of like a rebellious, younger sister. She’s mysterious, effortlessly cool, and alluring. Lana Del Rey dominates her Spotify Wrapped, and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” is the soundtrack to her life. While the sugar plum beauty trend focused on iridescent purples and the strawberry trend leaned into a true red hue and shades of pink, the cherry cola trend is more grounded, with a deep brown undertone—exactly like the color of the fizzy beverage.
“I love the cherry cola look because the color works well on everyone and complements so many different skin tones,” says Tori Delanís, a Virginia-based makeup artist and nail technician. “It’s so pretty, but it’s still bold and daring.” Indulge in one aspect of the trend, or fully immerse yourself, from your hair to your nails. Cherry cola lips are one of the best takes on this delicious trend. Start by using a deep brown or berry-colored lip liner to get a precise outline. For a gradient effect, lightly apply a transparent layer of deep red lipstick before blending with your finger or a small brush. Then, finish off the look with a berry gloss. “Mixing the brown liner with a hint of red helps to add depth to the lip combo, and cancels out that true red color,”
Delanís says. “It’s also important to only add a small touch of red, so that you end up with a transparent tint, instead of a full red lip. That makes all the difference.”

If you want to spice up your hair color, consider infusing it with a touch of cherry red. Celebrities like Dua Lipa, Issa Rae, and Tessa Thompson have all been spotted with deep burgundy hair. This brownish red shade is the perfect way to enhance your look, particularly during the cooler months. “If you’re after that deep, rich burgundy red, ask your stylist for a mix of cool-toned reds and purples,” says Ryan Pearl, colorist and creative director of Tangle Teezer. “Something bold with a dark, moody vibe. But be sure to talk about your base color first, because the final shade will depend on where you’re starting from. For a more natural, seamless grow-out, it’s best to keep some depth and a darker shade at the roots. That way, as your hair grows, the color fades more softly and looks less harsh.”

Red nails are always a staple, but this year, a darker hue can spice things up. “I love using this color because it works with almost every design, whether you like a more maximal look or prefer to keep it simple,” Delanís says. This color is bold and fun on its own, or you can use it for any trendy nail designs.
