Whoops!

Back in December, a number of media outlets (including us) reported on French plus-sized model, Clementine Desseaux, being named as the face of Christian Louboutin’s new lipstick.

The news spread after a video, which quickly went viral, was posted on Desseaux’s Instagram account showing her walking around Paris wearing the new lipstick.

In an interview with The Cut, Desseaux explained that the entire thing was a complete misunderstanding.

“The Christian Louboutin thing is so insane. He didn’t really hire me to do his campaign. Nobody checked with me and asked me, ‘Is that the story or is it not?’ I guess everyone just supposed that it was.”

Along with being a model, Desseaux is also an avid blogger and often has beauty products sent to her by brands.

“Basically, [Louboutin] gives me products because they like the blog and I know the team personally. I was in Paris just after they gave it to me, and me and my friend were like, 'Maybe let’s do a cool video or something, because everybody does pictures.’ So we just walked around in Paris, wearing the lipstick, putting it on and off and just playing around with it,” she explains.

Desseaux’s boyfriend later edited the video and added some music and the final cut was sent to the pr team at Louboutin.

“They loved it and decided to repost it on their social and everywhere.”

While Desseaux was flattered by the reaction, the misunderstanding made her very anxious.

“The whole weekend that happened, I was so scared and anxious. I didn’t want to come out of the bed. I was like, I don’t like this. This is not exact. Nobody asked my permission. Nobody asked me anything!”

Looking back on it now, she’s surprised that the idea of a plus sized face representing a beauty brand could cause such a stir.

“But it was a good opening for us to actually start talking about things,” she says.

“Christian, maybe take notes?”
