Christopher Ward has announced new versions of models in its vintage-inspired field watch offering, collectively known as its C65 Dune Collection.
The just-announced C65 Dune Aeolian Collection features textured dials, said to be inspired by the aeolian sand patterns of the Dune du Pilat in the south of France. (Aeolian patterns are wave-like ridges formed on sandy surfaces by wind. Aeolus was the Greek god of wind.)
The watches also come with updated straps, and new colours.
Replacing the now-discontinued Dune models from the debut series, the new Dune Aeolian collection offers three models, which all adhere to Christopher Ward’s mantra of offering “high-quality timepieces at accessible prices”.
At £750, there’s the C65 Dune Aeolian Automatic, which comes in four colours inspired by nature, including “white sand” and new shades like “Eve blue”, accented by old radium-style lume.
The C65 Dune Aeolian Bronze COSC, from £985, features a COSC-certified movement, a patina-developing bronze case, and gradient dials in “earthy tones”.
There’s also the C65 Dune Aeolian GMT, from £995, with dual-time functionality via a GMT hand, and a distinctive, raised outer ring in “white sand” or “Eve blue”. These models are powered by Sellita movements, visible through sapphire case backs.
“Three-dimensional textured dials are not something we’d done much before The Twelve,” says Mike France, Christopher Ward’s co-founder and CEO.
“But they’re exciting and can truly bring a watch to life. Dune Aeolian’s dial is very different to the Twelve’s, though: with no sharp corners, it’s undulating and organic.”
Much like the sand on a windy French beach, this one's gonna fly.
