Years ago, the then 24-year-old Crawford wore the plunging red gown as she walked the red carpet with her then boyfriend, and now ex-husband, Richard Gere. The red gown has been heralded as helping Crawford cement her status as a supermodel, and one of the biggest names in fashion during the ’90s.

In 1999, Crawford auctioned off her red Versace gown for charity. The dress sold for $12,650 USD with all proceeds going to the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

While the theme of the evening was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, Crawford looked sinful in the red gown, ruby earrings and flowing brunette locks.

Crawford arrived to the event with husband Rande Gerber, the best friend and business partner of George Clooney. Gerber and Clooney co-own their own tequila label, Casamigos. The evening was a date night for Crawford and her husband who showed their support to the event co-chair, Amal Clooney.

Despite Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber quickly climbing the ranks as the model of the moment, Crawford’s Met Gala gown proved why she’ll always be a fashion and beauty icon.
