Here’s How Cinnabon and Carvel Are Combining Warm Cinnamon Rolls and Ice Cream at Their New Restaurant

Yes, there is one way to make warm cinnamon rolls even better, and it involves ice cream.

“Heaven on Earth” might just be a turn of phrase, but the aromas wafting from a nearby Cinnabon store come pretty close to making this saying a reality. In excellent news for us all, the restaurant that brings us those nostalgic flavors of freshly baked buns and their sweet smells is collaborating with another familiar brand in a new store concept that goes far beyond the mall food court.

Cinnabon and Carvel are teaming up for an indulgent idea and an entirely new sweet-centric store named Cinnabon Swirl. The innovative mashup of the two brands brings customers an all-new menu with desserts, pints of ice cream, and of course, warm cinnamon rolls. The first location is slated to open in Hillsboro, Oregon this May, with more openings across the United States planned for later this year.

In today’s announcement, the two brands call Cinnabon Swirl a “treat experience like no other.” And as Cinnabon's executive chef Jennifer Holwill tells Food & Wine, it’s a strategy that just made sense for the two iconic chains.

“How do you make a Cinnabon cinnamon roll better? To top it with ice cream is a no-brainer,” says Holwill. “To partner with the world’s freshest ice cream at Carvel, those two worlds come together in a great way.”

While there are already a handful of dual Cinnabon-Carvel restaurants that house both stores under the same roof, Cinnabon Swirl is the first to fully blend the two brands in one menu. (Cinnabon and Carvel are owned by the same parent company, GoTo Foods, which oversees other staple chains like Auntie Anne’s and Jamba.)

“This concept really meets the evolving demand for unique, indulgent experiences by blending the two iconic brands,” says Holwill.

Residents of Arizona, Georgia, and California are in luck, because additional Cinnabon Swirls will be heading to all three states later in 2025. For anyone who isn’t nearby, don’t worry, around 30 more locations across the U.S. will be on the way soon.

As for menu offerings, Cinnabon says there’s lots of gooey goodness to dig into, and Holwill confirms that cinnamon rolls at its new concept will be baked in store every 30 minutes to ensure they’re warm and fresh.

The crown jewel of the Cinnabon Twist menu is undoubtedly the Bonini. This treat features a swirl of Carvel vanilla soft serve inside one of those freshly baked cinnamon buns, and the restaurant's development team says it expects the dessert to draw plenty of visitors.

“It’s like a warm Cinnabon ice cream sandwich,” Holwill explains. “You’ll see the visual merchandising and what it looks like in-store, and just think, ‘I’ve got to try this.’”

Otherwise, customers can select from a wide menu of items, such as the Cinnabon Swirl Sundae (a stunning creation starring gooey Cinnabon roll centers topped with vanilla soft serve) and chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches filled with Carvel’s classic soft serve.

The inaugural location in Hillsboro will also offer a rotating selection of soft serve flavors each month. Birthday Cake and Cold Brew soft serve are set to kick things off in May, with lots more sweetness promised.

All in all, it sounds like the stuff of our wildest daydreams — and sugar cravings.
