Cinnabon and Carvel Set to Open First-Ever Concept Shop — and We Tried the New Signature Items

The summer just got sweeter with two major brands coming together to create new dessert treats.

Earlier this month, ToGo Foods, the parent company to Auntie Anne's, Carvel, Cinnabon, Jamba, announced that it’s launching a new concept shop called Cinnabon Swirl.

Combining sweet parts of both Cinnabon and Carvel, this will be the first-ever concept parlor for either brand and will have innovative items for the new menu.

Guests will indulge in Cinnabon Swirl Sundaes, which include chopped up bits of cinnamon roll center swirls topped with Carvel vanilla soft serve and a caramel drizzle. For more a more classic taste, the shop will also serve Ice Cream Sandwiches with Carvel soft serve ice cream between two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

The standout and signature option will be the new Bonini. A play on the panini sandwich, the new treat is a Carvel vanilla soft serve Cinnabon Classic Roll sliced in half with a layer of Carvel vanilla soft serve in the middle. Then, the sweet sandwich is pressed together, panini style, to create a warm and irresistible dessert. If guests want a more classic bowl of ice cream, patrons can take home a Premium Pint that has Carvel soft serve ice cream swirled together with fan-favorite toppings.

I attended the tasting event for Cinnabon Swirl in New York, and it almost goes without saying: the new items are incredibly tasty.

Though a nostalgic treat, the Ice Cream Sandwich has a layer of caramel sauce that adds another layer of sweetness and upgrades a classic snack. Each sandwich is also partially rolled into a topping, which adds a nice crunch to the overall tasting experience. I tried an Ice Cream Sandwich that had cinnamon-flavored crunchies on the outside that reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, another nostalgic callback to my tastebuds.

By far, the Bonini was a true showstopper. Guests of the event were able to press their own Boninis and watch their ooey-gooey sandwich come to life.

Cinnabon Swirl will also have Swirl Rewards that will give patrons access to exclusive offers, new flavor announcements, and much more. Plus, all Swirl Rewards members will receive a free Center of the Roll with any purchase when they sign up.

The first location will open this May in Hillsboro, Oregon, with ToGo Foods projecting to open a minimum of 30 locations nationwide. Parlors will be opened in Peoria, Ariz., Kennesaw, Ga., and Pasadena, Calif., by the end of the year.
