Clinique's viral black lip gloss is finally back in stock — here's my honest review
\When it comes to creating viral beauty products, Clinique is no stranger to cult classics.
The brand's Almost Lipstick in the shade Black Honey was an instant hit when it was first introduced in 1971, and the product has since gone viral for being a universally flattering lip colour that seemingly looks good on everyone.
Piggybacking off of the success of the Black Honey lipstick, Clinique recently introduced a lip gloss version of the coveted shade. To nobody's surprise, it has gone viral too, with reviews of the iconic shade racking up more than 107 million views on TikTok.
Clinique Pop Plush Creamy Lip Gloss in Black Honey Pop
The Clinique Pop Plush Creamy Lip Gloss in shade 01 Black Honey Pop features a hydrating formula that offers nourishing colour and a high shine finish. The ingredient list consists of hyaluronic acid, aloe butter, avocado butter, and shea butter.
As someone who purchased (and loved!) the original Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, I knew I had to try the brand's Pop Plush Creamy Lip Gloss in Black Honey Pop to see if it really lived up to the hype.
TikToker @glamzilla (Stephanie Valentine) took to her platform to test out the viral Clinique lip gloss in this video, which has since racked up over 1 million likes.
Valentine mentions that the reason this shade looks good on everyone is that "it has the perfect balance of blue, red, and yellow pigment." Think of this as a your lips but better shade!
Hopping on the trend of testing out the viral lip gloss, TikToker @nidalkabashii stitched her video with Valentine's to demonstrate how the brand's latest launch looks on deeper skin tones.
Kabashi mentions that she's the "biggest fan" of the original Clinique Almost Lipstick in the shade Black Honey because "the colour fits [her] skin tone super super well."
It's safe to say Kabashi is a fan of the brand's glossy formula, too, because after she tests out Black Honey Pop on camera, she gives it an "11/10!"
Trying the product
When Clinique's Black Honey shade went viral online, I was skeptical to try it at first, as it is not a colour that I would typically reach for.
However, after giving in to the initial hype surrounding the Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, I was pleasantly surprised to see how flattering the colour looked on my fair skin. As a result, I was excited to try out the glossy version of the iconic shade.
I made sure to test the colour on clean, dry lips because it's supposed to offer high-shine pigment while making them feel hydrated and nourished. After dipping into the tube I applied one coat of the gloss to the top and bottom of my lips.
Similarly to my first encounter with Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, my initial reaction was that I loved the colour! This is a deeper shade than I normally gravitate towards, but I ended up loving it. The shade came across as a rich berry tone on my lips and ultimately gave me a fuller-looking pout.
Compared to Clinique's Almost Lipstick formula, I actually ended up loving the Pop Plush version even more, because it seemed to provide a richer colour payoff. I also loved how it made my lips look super juicy.
I could tell that the product's ingredients featured hydrating properties because my dry, cracked lips (thanks, winter) were nowhere to be seen after applying only one layer of the Pop Plush formula. I also appreciated the applicator, which is thoughtfully designed to hug your lips on application.
Final thoughts
Clinique's Black Honey shade has been reinvented in gloss form and it's a definite must-try for fans of the iconic shade. After all, there's a reason why this colour has been a best-seller since the brand first introduced it over 50 years ago.
Not only is the colour universally flattering on virtually every skin tone, but the product itself features a hydrating formula that keeps your lips looking ultra-juicy and feeling extra nourished.
If you're interested in adding this product to your beauty collection, I highly recommend scooping it up once it's in stock, because it tends to sell out quickly.
