Is ‘Cobra Kai’ Coming Back for Season 7? Netflix

If you just finished the three-part series finale, I’m sorry to say that you just witnessed the end of Cobra Kai. We won’t reveal the ending here—lest we face the wrath of John Kreese (Martin Kove)—but it’s commendable that producers Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg told some excellent Karate Kid fan-fiction on Netflix for six seasons.

“There are scenes in the final few episodes that we’ve been talking about for seven or eight years now. Some of them even longer,” Hurwitz revealed in an interview with Den of Geek. “It’s really exciting to be able to finish what we started in a way that has intent as opposed to just being told, ‘No more Cobra Kai,’ and the fans are left with an incomplete story.”

Of course, spin-offs are on the table. Few shows even make it to six seasons nowadays, so Netflix will surely invite the trio back to the drawing board to keep the Miyagi-verse alive with new ideas. “Even new characters like the Iron Dragons,” Hurwitz continued. “We just love playing in this sandbox and hopefully in the wake of Cobra Kai, there will be opportunities to go down different paths.”

Remember, Cobra Kai never dies. Follow along below for everything else we know about Cobra Kai’s future.

Will Cobra Kai Return for Season 7?

No. The season 6, part 3 finale is the final episode of Cobra Kai. Still, that’s not to say that Hurtwitz, Heald, and Schlossberg aren’t cooking up any more stories in the Karate Kid universe. Hillary Swank was a big cameo that never materialised over the course of six seasons, but a project with her character in mind remains a possibility.

“That's obviously one of the big legacy characters that didn't end up in Cobra Kai, and it was something that we talked about,” Schlossberg told Games Radar. “The long story short is it wasn't going to happen. As writers and creators, there's no guarantees of anything. When we entered into Cobra Kai, we weren't guaranteed that Thomas Ian Griffith was gonna return to acting or anything. So, you hope for things and then you find out what the reality is and then you make the best story. Our hope is that there's more Karate Kid stories in the future.”

What About the Karate Kid: Legends Film?

Hurtwitz, Heald, and Schlossberg were not consulted on the new Karate Kid movie. In fact, most of the stories that take place in Cobra Kai won’t even share continuity with the new film. Legends brings together Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan for the first time. Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) stars as the new Karate Kid.

“We’re as curious as everybody about that movie,” Heald said in their Den of Geek interview. “We love Ralph. We root for all things Karate Kid.”
