Coco Rocha Risked Her Life for Her Latest Modeling Shoot

Modeling isn’t just about sitting pretty — and no one knows that better than Coco Rocha. Throughout her decade-long career, Rocha has walked runways around the world, hosted reality shows, designed clothes, founded a modeling agency, and even written a book on her expertise, titled Study of Pose: 1,000 Poses by Coco Rocha. So confident in her on-the-job skills that she’s honed, she risked her life all for the sake of a good photograph.

Appearing on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Taiwan, Rocha wears a red, black, and silver sequined ensemble against a cityscape background. Simple enough, right? Find a rooftop, pose, click, print. Think again. Rocha shared on Instagram that it took Princess Merida levels of braveness, Spider-Man-like senses, and Philippe Petit’s balancing skills in order to get the shot just right.

In the video, Rocha, who’s a mother to 1-year-old Ioni Conran, balances on pink heels on a ledge lots of stories up with no contingency plan if the fickle wind decided to spontaneously change direction. She called the daring pose an #AdvancedModelMove and advised her followers not to try it at home.

Many expressed concern for her safety in the comments. “This makes me very very nervous, you are a mommy, the shooting is amazing but your life is irreplaceble,” Mich Coleman wrote. Many others called the stunt dangerous and crazy and asked why she wasn’t wearing a harness. Floyd Grey wondered why the photographer couldn’t “just step back instead? It’s cropped anyway, but luckily you’re safe.”

While many got dizzy just watching the short video, a majority of those sounding off were wildly impressed with Rocha and loaded her page with compliments. One shared, “U are brave and daring not to mention u must love FASHION at GREAAAAT Hights!!” Zhou Wen Jeremy said, “Grrrl! This is why I love you! Absolutely professional!” Lynda was impressed with Rocha’s fearlessness and added, “My palms are sweaty just looking at this — love you, Coco!”

And hopefully for many more years to come.
