Condé Nast Names New Vogue France Head of Editorial Content

HEAD START: Claire Thomson-Jonville has been appointed Vogue France’s head of editorial content from Feb. 3, succeeding Eugénie Trochu, who exited the position in December, as previously reported.

“Claire brings a depth of experience as a stylist, fashion editor and journalist, and she has an incredibly exciting vision for Vogue France,” said Anna Wintour, Vogue’s global editorial director and Condé Nast chief content officer. “Maintaining its French character is of paramount importance to her, as is the discovery of new talent in fashion, wellness, beauty, arts and culture. She is already off to a wonderful start and I am excited to see the title reflect her sensibility and point of view.”

Thomson-Jonville studied law at the University of Edinburgh. During an exchange program at the Sorbonne University in Paris, she met the founders of Self Service magazine, Ezra Petronio and Suzanne Koller.

Subsequently working with them at the Petronio Associates creative agency, she later became editor in chief of the magazine in 2015. In 2020, she joined i-D France as editorial director, a position she held for four years.

In parallel, Thomson-Jonville launched in 2018 CTJ Creative, an agency specialized in creative consulting, digital strategy and style direction, and most recently founded holistic wellness retreat Out of State in 2023.

The editor and creative consultant joined Condé Nast as global contributing editor in September and oversaw the French magazine’s December/January edition published on Nov. 29, which introduced a refresh of its layout and typography. Its headline proclaimed “La Renaissance du Chic.”

In her new role, Vogue France’s head of editorial content will report to Wintour and continue to be based in Paris.

Describing Vogue France as “a title that has always been at the forefront of creativity and cultural conversation,” Thomson-Jonville said she was “looking forward to curating a platform that celebrates bold ideas, elevates new perspectives, and continues to redefine the intersection of fashion, lifestyle and innovation.”

“Vogue has always been about pushing boundaries, and I’m thrilled to build it with this extraordinary team by my side,” she added.

The position of head of editorial content was created as part of a new editorial structure implemented across Condé Nast’s European titles in 2021 that saw senior editors replaced with a new digitally savvy generation charged with developing content that can be shared across the magazine’s global editions.
