This Costco Hack Will Revolutionize the Way You Shop For Wine

One of the (many) things we love about TikTok is that the social media platform is an endless source of hacks. From an easy way to store dryer sheets to a quick trick that will turn your handheld mixer into a stand mixer, TikTok has no shortage of helpful tips and advice. Case in point: One of the latest hacks making the rounds on the app concerns two of our favorite things—Costco and wine.

In a video shared by TikTok user @dailyoriginalvids a few days ago, a Costco shopper demonstrates how to store wine bottles in your shopping cart so they won’t topple over and potentially break. The hack, which is so simple we can’t believe we never thought of it, apparently came directly from a Costco employee, so we know it must be good. The quick trick entails placing the wine bottles horizontally in the top portion cart where a child might sit. Then, you simply thread the neck of the wine bottle through the corresponding rungs of the cart until each bottle is securely in place.
Not only will this trick keep your wine bottles from plummeting to the floor (take that, gravity!) but because each one has a designated rung to keep it stationary, you don’t even need to worry about the wine bottles crashing into each other. Plus, since Costco shopping carts are especially large, you can comfortably and easily store seven bottles of wine using this clever strategy.
Given how simple yet vital this hack is, it’s no surprise that the TikTok video has racked up nearly five million views and thousands of comments in a matter of days. “That’s genius,” one user wrote. Another added: “Omg my mind is blown!!!!” As some users pointed out, this hack also works at other supermarkets, as long as the rungs on the shopping cart are the right size.

And several TikTok users who are already familiar with this hack offered another tip that makes the whole thing even easier—place the wine bottles in your cart with the barcodes facing up so the checkout person can scan them without even removing them from your cart. If that’s not (another) stroke of genius, we don’t know what is.
If you’re headed to Costco to try this trick out, it might not be a bad idea to get started on your holiday shopping, because you can buy dozens of gift cards from the retailer at a discounted price. Costco really is the gift that keeps on giving!
