Costco Just Changed A Popular Bakery Item & It's Already Stirring Up Lots Of Drama
Big changes—or more appropriately, smaller changes—are reportedly coming to the Costco bakery and it has muffin-loving customers ready to riot.
The warehouse apparently didn't get the "variety is the spice of life" memo because according to a post on Reddit, Costco is getting rid of its mix & match 12-count muffins (two packs of six muffins) for $9.99 and replacing the deal with one pack of eight muffins of the same flavor for $6.99.
And that's not the only change: In the comments to the Reddit post, several users noted something else different about the bakery treats.
"The new ones are smaller. Maybe around 70% of the size of the old one," said one person.
Although the eight-count muffins are cheaper than the previous 12-count by $3, the math isn't working in customers' favor. In fact, one Redditor did some calculations comparing prices, and found that the new muffins are a shocking 58% more expensive per ounce.
"So, smaller, more expensive muffins...," read another comment.
As if dealing with smaller, more expensive muffins wasn't already enough, one person declared that they also don't taste the same
"These are so much worse. They’re much drier, less flavor, just bland and crumbly. I’m shocked they changed muffins up it since it’s something they’re pretty well known for. Won’t be buying these again," they announced.
It's not just customers that are frustrated over the muffin drama. As a result of the change, Costco workers will likely be tasked with having to deal with frazzled customers.
"One of my best friends is a baker at Costco and she’s told me she’s preparing for lots of angry customers. The recipes are going to be completely different, it’s not just the size change," said one person on Reddit.
Costco, please, we can only take so much per calendar year.
