Sure, Costco’s iconic $1.50 hot dog combo may be our go-to in-store snack, but we’re not always lured directly toward the food court section when we walk through those warehouse doors. Costco has plenty of other sections that also draw us in, including the bakery, the prepared meals case, and, of course, the frozen food aisles.

Costco’s freezers help us stock up on easy weekday meals and chef-favorite signature items. But it's also our spot for ice cream sandwiches, those bundles of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough, and so many other tasty frozen treats.

Speaking of sweet snacks, Costco's latest frozen offering is so good that fans are rushing to their local stores to get their hands on them. Here's why you should, too.

Costco Is Now Selling La Vie Gourmand Portuguese Custard Tarts

Costco recently started selling La Vie Gourmand Portuguese Custard Tarts, famously delicious Portuguese delights known as pasteis de nata. A recent Reddit thread grabbed our attention when the original poster stated, "Would you believe me if I said I fell to the cold, concrete Costco floor when I saw these last week?" They go on to describe how they had the original pastry while visiting Lisbon, and while “nothing can substitute for the real thing," these “mini cups of heaven [are] so damn close.”

Each box, featuring a "Made in Portugal" stamp, contains 18 "delicately flakey [pastries], filled with silky rich vanilla custard" for around $13. The OP even notes that pasteis de nata was named one of the 50 best things to eat in the world (turns out, it's true). Now we can all have a taste, thanks to Costco.

Another fan was “shocked" the first time they were spotted at an Ohio warehouse—and was pleasantly surprised by how good they were: “My family [is] Portuguese, and everyone I've served these to has given them the seal of approval.”

While we’re all about making these tarts from scratch, we can’t argue that having some on hand in the freezer—without all the work—is pretty nice. Since they are frozen, you’ll need to warm the pastries before enjoying them. One Reddit user said 9 minutes in an air fryer at 375 degrees F worked well, but popping them in the oven for a few minutes will also do.

So far, the tarts have been spotted nationwide at local Costco stores from New York to Ohio to California.

If you’re looking to get your hands on these sweet, custardy bites, you better make a shopping trip to Costco pretty quickly. They're being dubbed “the best frozen dessert” the store has ever carried by one customer. A Costco shopper noticed someone in the store with “a literal half cart” worth of the tarts, and another is "definitely returning...once this box is empty.“

Sounds like this new frozen treat is worth its own trip—especially now when boxes are on sale for $3.50 off through Jan. 20.
