Country estate lit up to showcase snowdrops

An 18th Century country estate will be illuminated this week to showcase its snowdrops for visitors.

The snowdrop wood at Attingham Park, in Atcham near Shrewsbury, will be lit up in the early evening on 12-14 February.

The National Trust, which runs Attingham Park, said the annual event was free for its members and under-fives.

The illuminations will include coloured floodlights, fairy lights and festoon lights.

Attingham Park has 200 acres of parkland, which include the snowdrop wood as well as a deer park and an orchard.

Evidence of two previously unknown Roman villas were uncovered on the estate during a survey last year.

The snowdrop event, which was first held in 2023, will take place at 16:30-19:30 GMT this week and the last entry to the park will be at 18:30.

The snowdrop wood will also be lit up in the afternoons next week for half-term, with last entry at 17:30 and the park closing at 18:00.
