Couple Falls in Love. Then He Charms Another Member of Her Family (Exclusive)
Emma's Gramsie found herself charmed when she first met her now-husband, Pontus, and they've had a tight bond ever since
One woman is cherishing the unexpected connection between her two favorite people.
Emma Noyes met her husband, Pontus, in January 2022. After meeting online, the two began dating. When Pontus had to return to Sweden, where he is from, to pursue his finance degree at Lund University, he asked Emma to join him.
"I said yes," she tells PEOPLE. "Shortly after we moved back to the U.S. together, he proposed."
One of the things that made Emma's yes so easy was how seamlessly Pontus fit into her family life. In particular, he hit it off with her 91-year-old grandmother, whom they call Gramsie.
"Gramsie is a total ham. Having your significant other meet her is sort of a rite of passage in our family," she recalls.
"I told Pontus that she loves sweets, so he brought her a giant bar of Marabou, a Swedish chocolate. I think she fell in love with him as soon as he handed her that chocolate bar, and they've been best friends ever since."

In a now-viral video shared on TikTok, Pontus and Emma visit Gramsie at her assisted living facility. Despite living four hours away, it's not unusual for the couple to make visits several times a year.
"The way my husband prioritizes family is one of my favorite things about him. It makes me so happy to watch him and Gramsie together and see the genuine love they share," Emma says.
"We live in Chicago. Gramsie lives in Indianapolis, which is also where she grew up and raised her family. It's about a four-hour drive, depending on traffic. We don't visit as often as we would like, but we try to go at least several times a year."
When the three are together, they engage in all of Gramsie's favorite activities. Emma appreciates the way she sees her husband and Gramsie connect in their time together. It's become a treat for them to go on adventures in her area with her, too.
"Gramsie loves drinking coffee, knitting, eating sweets and visiting with her friends at the home, so we do all of those things when we visit with her. Last weekend, we also took her to visit three bookstores," Emma shares. "I'm an author, so I try to make a point of visiting bookstores and meeting booksellers wherever I go. I hadn't yet done that in Indy, but when I suggested it to Gramsie, she perked right up."
"She makes friends everywhere she goes. For an author, bringing your adorable 91-year-old grandmother to a bookstore is basically a cheat code, because the booksellers automatically love her," she adds.
"She's in amazing health — you would never guess she's 91 by how sprightly and mischievous she is! But we still try to prioritize time with her whenever we can."
Realizing how special their time together is inspired Emma to share a few TikToks about the sweet relationship.
"I've seen a few TikToks in the past about grandkids going to their grandparents' house for a sleepover, and they always made me smile. I thought I'd do the same," she says.
"Gramsie definitely knows she's going viral, and she's loving every second of it. Yesterday, one of the nurses ... recognized her from the video. Gramsie texted me right away saying how excited she was. And when I texted her to say that a reporter from PEOPLE had reached out to write a story about the video, she responded, 'No way! Don't tease me!' "
The experience has been "amazing" for all three of them.
"A personal favorite of mine was a comment that said, 'How does it feel to know your husband is the favorite grandchild?' " Emma says with a laugh, adding, "So true!"
