This Cozy 2025 Material Is the New Bouclé, According to Designers
Bouclé fabric has been having a major moment over the past few years and for good reason — it adds a cozy, textured touch to anything from storage ottomans and accent chairs to sofas. And while this trend is showing no signs of slowing down, designers expect a new material to take the home decor world by storm in 2025.
This prediction comes from Apartment Therapy’s fifth annual The State of Home Design Survey, which outlines the biggest interior design trend forecasts for 2025, according to over 150 interior designers. These experts were polled on everything from trending color palettes to popular design styles, and when asked the one material they think will gain popularity in 2025, shearling/sheepskin beat out bouclé in the upholstery category by nearly twice as many votes.
Yep, move over bouclé — you can likely expect to see more shearling and/or sheepskin (especially faux!) decor in the upcoming year, according to design pros. Like bouclé, shearling is textural, cozy, and typically neutral in tone, making it ideal for integrating into any room. However, this material offers a slightly more rustic, earthy vibe that aligns with many of 2025’s other emerging design trends, including the rise of dark wood furniture again.
Designers aren’t entirely ready to say goodbye to bouclé in 2025, though. Francesca Herro, founder and principal designer of Francesca Herro Design in Houston, Texas, says it’s the perfect textural touch to add a bit of fun to a room. Experts agree that bouclé will still remain popular across furniture and decor, but expect to see it take a back seat to trendy alternatives like shearling and sheepskin throughout the year.
Ready to embrace 2025’s newest “it” material? These products will help you integrate sheepskin and/or shearling into your home.
