Cynthia Nixon's 3 Children: All About Seph, Charles and Max
'Sex and the City' star Cynthia Nixon's children have inspired her activism
Cynthia Nixon is the proud mother of three children: Seph, Charles and Max.
The Sex and the City actress had her two older children, Seph and Charles, with her ex-husband Danny Mozes, in 1996 and 2002, respectively. Shortly after her divorce from Mozes, Nixon started dating her eventual wife, Christine Marinoni. The couple added Max to the blended family in 2011.
Nixon doesn’t often talk about her family life, but she has stated that she loves being a mother. In a 2008 interview with Parents, Nixon said, “Being a mother was something that I always knew I was going to do. I went into parenthood thinking, ‘This is something I’m really up for.’ ”

Being a mom has helped Nixon grow into her own, too. In a 2018 interview with Vice, the activist touched on how nurturing her kids boosted her self-esteem.
“What happened essentially is, I was a daughter for a long time and then I became a mother and I became my own mother," she said. "I became more comfortable with the idea of my own opinion mattering and being able to say it out loud.”
Here's everything to know about Cynthia Nixon’s children: Seph, Charles and Max.
Seph Mozes, 27
Nixon and Mozes welcomed Samuel "Seph" Joseph Mozes in November 1996. Her eldest child grew up in New York and attended the University of Chicago.
In June 2018, Nixon celebrated Trans Day of Action by sharing that Seph is transgender.
Alongside a throwback photo posted on her Instagram of herself and Seph at his college graduation, she wrote, “I’m so proud of my son Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month. I salute him and everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction.”
Nixon has often opened up about how her activism aligns with her parenting. In December 2023, she joined a hunger strike to demand a permanent Israeli ceasefire in Gaza.
During an appearance on The View, she explained that Seph had encouraged her to do so.
“I am the mother of two Jewish children whose grandparents are Holocaust survivors," she explained. "My oldest son, in particular, he really has been reaching out to my wife and I and asking us — imploring us, really — to say, ‘Use your voice to affirm as loudly as you can that ‘never again’ means ‘never again’ for anyone.’ ”
Charles Ezekial Mozes, 21
Nixon’s middle child, Charles Ezekial Mozes, was born in December 2002.
The Gilded Age actress was pregnant with Charles while she was filming the fourth season of Sex and the City. Instead of trying to hide her pregnancy, the show decided to use it for a storyline and made her character, Miranda Hobbes, pregnant as well.
Although Charles leads a private life, the actress has stated that he’s into comedy.
In a 2018 interview with The Cut, Nixon said that Charlie was a typical teenager who was “in his room a lot."
She added, “He always has funny things to show me on the internet. He’s very into Eric Andre — he’s very funny, so he’s been showing me a lot.”
Charles is also a fan of music. In December 2019, Nixon celebrated his 17th birthday by posting a photo of him on Instagram, in which he holds a cake decorated like a record.
“My beautiful Charlie turned 17 today (and my wife made this amazing cake celebrating his love of vinyl)!” she wrote in the caption.
Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni, 13
Nixon and her wife Marinoni welcomed Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni in February 2011.
The Emmy winner often shares how she and Max have fun in New York City.
In June 2021, Nixon posted a carousel of photos and a video on Instagram of her and Max posing and dancing in the streets after watching In The Heights.
"Back in 2007, I saw a little musical off-broadway called In The Heights. It was electric," she wrote. "Felt pure joy all over again last night when Max and I saw @InTheHeightsMovie on the big screen at their premiere. We literally left the theater dancing."

Two years later, Nixon shared a video on Instagram of her youngest child waving the pride flag on an N.Y.C. sidewalk.
"Happy end of Pride y’all. Hope you had an amazing weekend. I know we did," she captioned it.
Max has also joined his mom on the red carpet. He attended the world premiere of And Just Like That... in December 2021, and Nixon shared a cute photo on Instagram of him with Niall Cunningham, who plays her on-screen son Brady.
