Dakota Johnson Paused An Interview To Ask An Actor If She Felt Comfortable During A Sex Scene

As she amps up the promotion for her directorial debut, Loser Baby, Dakota Johnson made a point of asking her lead actor whether or not she felt comfortable being directed by the Madame Web star.

Josh Horowitz, the host of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, asked Johnson during an interview on September 13: 'Did you kind of apply the good and the bad that you've experienced in your own career to how you directed your friends in this?'

Johnson replied: 'Yes, and so I really did my best to make [Talia Bernstein] feel as comfortable as possible in all of the sexual moments.'

The Madame Web star then called out Loser Baby's lead actor Bernstein, mid-interview, to ask her if she felt 'comfortable' being directed by her, to which Bernstein joked: 'I guess?'

Loser Baby, which is 23-minutes long, follows a group of LA-based friends, led by actor Talia Bernstein, who also wrote the script. Bernstein’s character Lizzie is frustrated by the sexless plateau of her long-term relationship—a situation she bemoans to her best friend, played by Blake Lee, that reaches a kind of zenith at a birthday party for another friend, played by Ashley Madekwe.

Johnson's interview came after it was confirmed that she is set to star in Celine Song's follow-up film to the runaway romantic hit of this year, Past Lives. Johnson is set to star opposite Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal in Materialists, which is a New York-based rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man. The roles that Johnson, Pascal and Evans would be playing have not been disclosed but, appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, Johnson discussed the role for the first time.

Without revealing much about Materialists, Johnson said in a conversation with Collider that she had 'the most amazing time' working with Song. 'I am deeply in love with her, and with her as a director, as a filmmaker, as a human,' she teased, without revealing anymore about the project, which is rumoured to be entering production in May 2025.
