Kendall Vertes has always been a beauty-lover.

The former Dance Moms cast member, 22, has been using makeup and experimenting with beauty products since she first started competing in dance at around 2 years old. However, her true inspiration for beauty projects comes from her mom and sisters.

"We have a household full of beauty, makeup and girly things. My mom actually worked at a Chanel counter at Macy's before Dance Moms, so she's the queen of makeup, beauty and skin care," Vertes says while speaking to PEOPLE about her partnership with Jergens. "So, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to that."

As for her typical skincare routine, the James Madison University senior says she keeps it very simple. "My roommate in college hates me for this, but I have one product in my skincare routine, and I've been using it since I was a child," the dancer says of the face wash she uses "every morning and night."

She adds, "My skin has always been not perfect but up to par for my liking, and that's literally it. But I do need to expand my skin care a little bit because now that I'm getting older, I need to put sunscreen on my face when I'm out in the sun. But as of now, it's a one-step routine."

This week, Vertes, who was on Dance Moms from 2012 to 2017, had the chance to share more about her wellness routine with other students while making a surprise appearance at Ohio State University for Jergens' Self Tan U college tour.

While there, Vertes was taken aback when she was greeted by fans and followers of the show, which brought her back in time.

"When we were younger and the show was airing, we would do meet-and-greets all the time, so we were able to meet our fans and followers," she says. "Now, I can't really do that as often because I'm still in school and traveling so much."

"So, this was such a fun opportunity for me to meet the college students who basically grew up with me," she adds. "Now we're all kind of in the same boat, the same age, so it was a really fun experience, and I'm so glad I got to mingle with college students who are also just going to class to get a degree."

After the event, Vertes took to her Instagram Stories to share photos of the fans, many of whom showed up with Dance Moms merchandise.

"It's so crazy that we are still so relevant to this day," she says. "The show ended years ago, and I honestly think when COVID happened, everybody started rewatching the show, and then we did our reunion. So it got a huge resurgence, and honestly, I just feel like they don't make reality TV like that anymore. Dance Moms was one of the most iconic TV shows, and I am not being biased, but it's just so funny."

"I see clips of it on TikTok all the time, and I'm like, wait, I didn’t even know this happened," she adds. "But I love the fact that people still obviously correlate me with Dance Moms because that's where I came from. So anytime I see an Abby Lee T-shirt, a team jacket, or any type of merch, I'm like, this is an ancient artifact, and I love it."
