David Tennant Takes Us Through His Greatest Looks

In Doctor Who, David Tennant plays a centuries-old time traveller. Presumably the Timelord has witnessed many style trends come and go (and come back again), but it turns out that Tennant has tried out a few of own, too.

In the latest episode of Esquire’s Lookbook video series, the Scottish actor talks through some of his intriguing and indelible looks: from the doctor’s striped slim-fitting suit (thanks, Gap!) to the countryside threads of Tony Baddingham in the upcoming television adaptation Jilly Cooper’s Rivals (less Gap, more grouse shoot).

Tennant, wearing an orange-and-pink jumper which frankly deserves its own video, also looks back on his 2008 portrayal of Hamlet (the hesitant antihero wore a beanie and a parka in Gregory Doran’s modern retelling) and some notable red carpet looks, including the “kilt version of black tie” he wore to present this year’s Baftas ceremony, complete with glitzy sporran (that’s the accompanying purse, for those less familiar with Highland dress). “It’s practical as well as stylish,” Tennant notes, and who are we to disagree? Allons-y!

‘Rivals’ is available to watch from 18 October on Disney+
