'The Day Of The Jackal' Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Cast and Plot
While 2024 wasn’t necessarily a golden year for TV, Sky Atlantic/Peacock came through with a banger right at the very end: The Day Of The Jackal.
Headed up by Eddie Redmayne as The Jackal – the world’s best and most elusive sniper – the gripping series sees a cat-and-mouse game between him and British intelligence officer, Bianca (Lashana Lynch), all played out among some serious jet-setting around Europe.
But with the series finishing on a high on December 12, fans are desperate to know whether there’s a series two coming – and when the release date might be. Here are all the details we have so far:
The Day Of The Jackal 2: Release Date
The Day of the Jackal has become the biggest Sky Original ever and the biggest launch on Sky in over two years, drawing a record audience of three million in its first week. A second series seemed like a no-brainer, and at the end of November the broadcaster confirmed that it had already been commissioned. However, as filming is yet to even begin, we’d imagine that 2026 is the earliest we could hope to see it on screen.
The Day Of The Jackal 2: Trailer
Nope, way too soon for that. Check back much, much later for a Jackal-based teaser trailer.
The Day Of The Jackal 2: Cast
Spoiler alert: the TV show actually switched the ending of Frederick Forsyth’s original story, and it was Bianca who met a grizzly death, so it’s probably wise to assume she’s not going to be back for a second series.
While Redmayne is yet to confirm that he will be back, it’s likely that producers will be keen to have him sign on the dotted line for the follow-up. He did tell The Hollywood Reporter that he was expecting it to be a multi-series show: “When I signed on for the series, there was an aspiration for the Jackal story to continue. So I knew that was going to be the twist [at the end of series 1].”
Other cast members who could potentially also make a come back are Charles Dance, Ursula Corberó, Khalid Abdalla, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Sule Rimi, Florisa Kamara and Nick Blood.
The Day Of The Jackal 2: Plot
While we don’t know exactly what plot season two will follow, there are some loose ends from the first series that need to be tied up.
The Jackal’s wife, Nuria, had run away and he needed to track her down, so perhaps the next series will centre on the two characters.
Also, the entrepreneur Zina Jansone alluded to an unsettled debt, and said that the banker Timothy Windthrop could be The Jackal’s next target.
Meanwhile, the show's executive producers Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant told The Hollywood Reporter a little bit more. Neame said: “There’s some serious bits of unfinished business,” while Marchant added: “We actually know what his priority is, in terms of what his next mission will be. He’s trying to find [his family]. Whether he does or not, let’s see.”
