The Decadence of the ’80s Is Back for Spring Jewelry

The days of excess and opulent glamour are back — in jewelry, at least. The ’80s, the decade of decadence and extremes, is a major influence of the jewelry collections from the spring runway. From Saint Laurent’s mega-size earrings to Schiaparelli’s surrealist and conversational necklaces to the high jewelry houses, bigger is better. Vibrant gemstones, an overload of gold with moments of articulation have become powerful trends.

Layering a variety of chains — yellow gold, of course — is an easy way to catch the vibe without being  brash. Mix sizes of necklaces: a Lugano diamond zipper chain, and Nouvel Heritage diamond tuxedo necklace, topped off with a vintage Briony Raymond Estate collar necklace complete the look in a modern way.

Bulgari’s Tubogas Serpenti watch set the timepiece tone in the ’80s and still feels fresh today. Other chic timepieces — a Cartier Panthère de Cartier watch, Chanel Première Édition Originale watch — can be worn together, stacked up for mega effect.

Stack up cocktail rings, a Sorellina Stardust cocktail ring in yellow gold, aquamarine, diamonds; a Seaman Schepps ring in blue topaz and peridot; a Cartier High Jewelry ring in platinum, sapphire, emerald and diamonds on hands with red nails feel like a modern-day take on the iconic Joan Collins in “Dynasty.”  Even break out the faux fur for a dash of uber glamour, but ground it all with blue denim to keep in modern and au courant.
