Toothpaste is one of everyone’s daily necessities. There are tons of toothpaste brands, flavors and variations available on the market. However, the majority of them come in a traditional paste housed inside a plastic tube and cardboard box. Also, if you live with others, chances are your housemates’ toothbrushes have touched the tip of the tube opening at least a few times a week.

To prevent this cross-contamination and provide a more sustainable alternative, dentists recommend using toothpaste tablets. And, according to shoppers, hello’s Antiplaque & Whitening Eco-Friendly Travel Toothpaste Tablets are the best ones to buy.

TODAY spoke with Dr. Lawrence Fung of Silicon Beach Dental, who recommended trying toothpaste tablets as an alternative to using a tube of toothpaste, “especially if you’re sharing one tube with the whole family.”

“Everyone should use toothpaste tablets,” Dr. Fung said. “They are very easy to use and taste and perform just like regular toothpaste.”

hello’s toothpaste tablets are made with natural peppermint, tea tree oil and coconut oil to remove plaque and whiten your teeth. Fung further recommends that you look for the ones with hydrated silica, an active ingredient that gives the tablets a slightly more abrasive texture to brush away stains more effectively.

So, if you’re confused about how these work, don’t worry — it honestly couldn’t be simpler.

All you need to do is chew one toothpaste tablet, and foam will start to form. Once that happens, just wet your toothbrush and brush like normal.

These toothpaste tablets are much more sustainable than traditional toothpaste. And, unlike the tubed variation, they don’t have any artificial sweeteners or flavors. They’re also free of fluoride, peroxide, dyes, sulfates and gluten.

Also, in addition to being sustainable, these are much more travel-friendly than traditional toothpaste.

The hello Antiplaque & Whitening Eco-Friendly Travel Toothpaste Tablets even have Amazon shoppers’ and editors’ stamp of approval. One five-star reviewer even said he noticed that his teeth have gotten whiter since using them.

“I purchased these in my efforts to cut down on waste little by little,” the shopper wrote. “It keeps my teeth feeling clean all day and I’ve even noticed a difference in the color of them.”

Another shopper who admitted to being a little skeptical about these at first said she’s completely “thrilled with it.” She also added that it “works great with my [Philips] SonicCare [toothbrush].”

“The taste is smooth and minty without the burn,” the five-star reviewer added. “Not going back to traditional toothpaste.”
