Derek Jeter agrees to attend Yankees' Old-Timer's Day ceremonies for first time
ATLANTA – At age 49, nine years since his retirement from baseball, Hall of Fame Yankees legend Derek Jeter is officially an Old-Timer.
On Monday, the Yankees announced that their forever team captain has agreed to participate in his first Old-Timer’s Day ceremonies at Yankee Stadium, Sept. 9, as the club honors the 25th anniversary of the 1998 world championship team.
According to the Yankees, there will not be an Old-Timer’s game, as was the case last year – a wrinkle that upset a large swath of fans who adored the time-honored tradition of seeing their old heroes in uniform again.
It’s also the 75th Yankees Old-Timer’s Day, and 28 of Jeter’s former 1998 teammates are scheduled to attend.
That roster includes fellow Hall of Famers Mariano Rivera and manager Joe Torre, along with pinstriped icons Paul O’Neill, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada and Tino Martinez.
Yankees’ stars Hideki Matsui, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry, David Cone and Bucky Dent have also accepted invitations, as have the widows of Thurman Munson, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin and Bobby Murcer.

Jeter had been famously reluctant to attend previous Yankees Old-Timer's days since his retirement following the 2014 season, and his Hall of Fame induction in 2019. He also previously served five years as CEO of the Miami Marlins.
Next month's Old-Timer's Day ceremonies will take place before the scheduled 2:05 p.m. game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
In lieu of an Old-Timer’s Day game, the Yankees have scheduled a "new question and answer roundtable format in which the former Yankees greats will share memories of their days in pinstripes."
