The red carpet at the 76th Golden Globe Awards was ruled by some of the most famous women in Hollywood over 50. From Halle Berry to Julia Roberts, it was the red carpet veterans who turned heads in an industry long-believed to value youthfulness.

However not everyone was cheering on Hollywood’s powerhouse women. During the red carpet pre-show, Twitter erupted with cruel comments regarding actress Felicity Huffman’s appearance.

While many raved over the “Desperate Housewives” alum’s flawless ensemble, Huffman was immediately attacked by online trolls speculating that the actress has had plastic surgery.

“My GOD Felicity Huffman has had WORK done,” one woman tweeted. “I didn’t even recognize her.”

One person even took the opportunity to slam both Huffman and actress Sarah Jessica Parker, another star who has experienced criticism for her appearance online.

Trolls also couldn’t help themselves from making transphobic comments about Huffman’s role in the 2006 film “Transamerica,” which earned her a Golden Globe.

“Felicity Huffman looks more trans than almost every trans woman I’ve ever met,” one user wrote. “Let’s let her off the hook for that tranny movie.”

One person went so far as to tag Huffman directly in their hurtful tweet, tagging her and writing “My God your plastic surgery is like a Halloween costume. You’re getting f*cking old deal with it.”

Here’s the deal folks: Huffman’s physical appearance is not up for conversation.

Huffman and Macy, a pair that have captured hearts on the red carpet for more than 20 years, stole the show as presenters, and are admired and well-respected actors and producers.

Awards shows and red carpets in particular demonstrate the mutually beneficial relationship between designers and celebrities that does not extend to a person’s size, weight or appearance.

Perhaps trolls need to be reminded that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
