Dog Killed By Police After Woman, 2 Children Were Injured When Animal Attacked

The woman and children are expected to recover

A Washington, D.C. police officer shot and killed a dog that attacked a woman and two children Monday night.

The Metropolitan Police department says in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the officer witnessed the attack on 49th Street and fired at the dog and killed it.

The woman and children were transported to the hospital conscious and breathing.

ABC 7 and FOX 5 each report that officials say the dog was a pit bull. FOX reported that another dog, a rottweiler, saw the attack and tried to defend the woman, but that the pit bull would not let go of the woman's arm. The outlet also reported that the woman is expected to recover.
