If you rely on Dollar Tree to get all of your seasonal finds and everyday supplies, then you’re going to love this new change impacting the brand. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the popular discount variety store is on track to open more locations.

Dollar Tree and Dollar General intend to expand their real estate this fiscal year, opening more than 1,300 storefronts. The new store launches are meant to make it more accessible for shoppers to get to nearby locations and, of course, help drive up sales. Despite spending dwindling with the company’s core audience, they hope this new change will help them stand out from their competitors like Walmart and Target.

So, how does this policy change impact your Dollar Tree shopping hauls? With the growing number of stores across the nation, the hope is that you will have one accessible in your neighborhood that’s stocked with valuable finds and household gems. Discount stores tend to do well in rural areas where large retailers like Amazon have little reach.

Rival stores like Target and Walmart have invested heavily in making their shopper experience more accessible by improving the in-store and online buying process, and Dollar Tree and Dollar General are hoping to catch up and take authority in these trends, too.

Last year, Dollar General worked to implement a hiring boost to help improve the shopper experience. They honed in on ensuring that aisles were less cluttered, items remained in stock, and the self-checkout section worked efficiently. Dollar Tree spent this year expanding its product selection and opening up nearly 300 stores while deprioritizing Family Dollar as it considers selling off the underperforming chain.

Dollar stores across the nation are trying to keep up with an ever-growing industry. With speedy e-commerce options like Amazon in the mix, they have to stay relevant. Positioning themselves with increasing brick-and-mortar locations will remind customers that they are a reliable place to shop.
