Dominic West, 54, has spoken out about those Lily James kiss photos, four years after the pair were photographed kissing in Italy during the pandemic.

While speaking to The Sunday Times' Culture Magazine, West revealed that while the moment was very stressful for his wife, Catherine FitzGerald, 52, and children, the family now joke about the infamous moment.

"I hesitate to speak on my wife’s behalf because it was obviously horrible, particularly for her," he explained. "But we do joke about it sometimes. Because whenever we went out together, the papers would always say we were ‘putting on a show of unity’. Even if we’d just been rowing about parking the car or whatever, even if that couldn’t be further from the truth. And so when we go out we do sort of say, ‘Shall we go and have a show of unity up in London?’"

West continued to explain the photographs did provide some lighter moments for the family, despite it being an "absurd" situation.

"It was an absurd situation. It was deeply stressful for my wife and my kids, but there were lighter moments. That was the best that came out of it, really.”

Back in October 2020, Lily James, 35, and West were photographed kissing and spending time in Rome together. The pair were filming for the BBC adaptation of The Pursuit Of Love and previously knew each other having worked together on stage in 2011.

At the time there was speculation West and FitzGerald had split as West was spotted not wearing his wedding ring while in Rome, however the couple released a statement handwritten on a piece of paper outside their house, saying: "Our marriage is strong and we're very much still together. Thank you."

Lily has previously appeared to have spoken out about the photographs while talking to Rolling Stone in 2022, saying: "Women in the public eye at some point experience some sort of difficult situation in that relationship between privacy and your life being in the tabloids."

Appearing to refer to her own experience, she went on, "It was a lot. It’s a story as old as time."
