Doritos have been accused of sexism after revealing bonkers plans to introduce ‘lady-friendly’ crisps.

We are still in February right? We only ask as we thought it might be April Fool’s Day.

Apparently because us girls are not fans of noisy, crunchy crisps that leave flavour residue on our fingers, crisp giant Doritos have decided to do something about it by launching a version of the snack, which are quieter to eat and a lot less messy.

Well, hey thanks Doritos.

PepsiCo (the company that owns Doritos) claims their research has found women do not like to crunch loudly or lick their fingers when eating in front of others.

CEO Indra Nooyi revealed that the company is working on fixing that female-only life problem right now.

“As you watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth, because they don’t want to lose that taste of the flavour, and the broken chips in the bottom,” Nooyi said.

“Women I think would love to do the same, but they don’t. They don’t like to crunch too loudly in public. And they don’t lick their fingers generously and they don’t like to pour the little broken pieces and the flavour into their mouth.”

But, wait there’s more. The designed-for-women snacks will even come in special packs specifically designed to fit into women’s handbags.

Unsurprisingly women’s campaigners have criticised the move as a “tired gender stereotype”.

A spokesman from the Women’s Equality Party told The Sun: “Companies that perpetuate these tired gender stereotypes will continue to lose out on the single biggest consumer group: women.

“No doubt some male consumers will welcome the chance to have a bigger package. But the idea of shrinking products for women, no doubt for the same price, is as old as the Ad Men making these decisions.”

As you can imagine social media is also a little perplexed by the news.

“Will women’s doritos be 50p dearer? That’s normally how this shit goes down,” one user wrote.

“Good heavens @DoritosUK, a lady would never eat CRISPS when there are perfectly acceptable snacks such as lady fingers and fondant fancies to delicately nibble. WATCH ME EAT A CHEESE DUST COVERED SHARING BAG ALL BY MYSELF YOU SEXIST MORONS,” another added.

“Lady Doritos? I so hope they’re pink and sparkly too,” one user wrote.

Another user simply commented: “Are they having a laugh? As if in 2018 this is a real thing WTF?!”

We couldn’t agree more!

If anyone needs us we’ll be making ourselves a snack of delicately sliced cucumber sandwiches.
