Dr Pepper Is Releasing a New Summer Flavor and It's Good
I was lucky enough to try the limited edition flavor, available starting May 1.
Like most American kids, I inhaled soda growing up. I came from a Coca-Cola family—there was always a two-liter of Coke in our fridge—but I secretly loved Dr Pepper. Along with Cheerwine (where my Cheerwine lovers at?), Dr Pepper was what I snagged at the corner store, bought with my treasured quarters at the vending machine, and ordered at the movie theater.
What flavor is Dr Pepper, exactly? Twenty-three, that’s what! I’ve always thought it tastes vanilla and cherry flavored, but since the iconic soda boasts 23 flavors in all, I’m clearly missing a few. Now, the brand is coming out with a brand new flavor for the summer (so make that 24!).
A Limited Edition Flavor Just for This Summer
Available starting May 1, you’ll see Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut popping up on shelves everywhere. The limited edition summery flavor will be available in regular and Zero Sugar, and sold in 12-packs of cans and 20-ounce bottles. Dr Pepper points out that it is “the only coconut-cream-flavored dark soda on the market.”
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the new coconut soda. Keep in mind that I’m not a huge soda drinker these days, but I still partake in the occasional Dr Pepper, especially at the movies. I popped open a can to share with my husband and neighbors so we could have a true taste test.
The first thing you’ll notice is a light coconut aroma. Upon tasting, the flavor is subtle and mostly comes through at the end. We all appreciated how subtle it was, since there’s already so much going on in Dr Pepper, and too much artificial coconut flavor can get into sunscreen territory. I liked it much more than I thought I would, as did my husband, and my neighbor loved it.
We all agreed it was a fun summer flavor and polished off our glasses. If you’re a Dr Pepper fan, a soda connoisseur, or a lover of all things coconut, give Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut a try. The limited edition flavor is available at retailers nationwide from May 1 through the end of July.
