Dreamland heated blanket review: Is this throw worth the money?
I am one of those people who is always cold. Winter at home is spent sat scarily close to the fire or curled up with a hot water bottle, with two pairs of socks and at least one fluffy jumper — but one solution to keeping the chill at bay is using an electric blanket.
Now, if the phrase 'electric blanket' has you thinking about potential dangers, fear not. I too have been a little dubious in the past, but technology has come a long way in recent years to ensure they are safe. This was definitely a key consideration when I was choosing a design, and as Dreamland specialise in Kema-Keur safety-certified heated blankets, I knew this brand would be a reliable choice.
I love all things soft and cosy, so I wanted to go all out with the chunkiest design I could find. Both my sofa and bedding are neutral in colour, so as soon as I saw this luxurious faux fur blanket in an Alaskan Husky print, I knew it was the one. But does it live up to expectations? Keep reading to find out my honest review.
This coveted blanket is on sale now at both Amazon and Boots, so be sure to grab one before they sell out.
Dreamland heated blanket: features at a glance
Luxury faux fur with super soft reverse: both sides feel really soft in different ways. The sumptuous thick fur is heavy and cosy so you really feel the weight of the blanket on you. It's super warm and comforting before it's even turned on.
Energy saving: this electric throw costs little to run – approximately just 1p per hour – making it significantly cheaper (and cosier) than putting the heating on.
Customisable heat: there are six temperature settings to choose from, so whether there's only a slight chill or it's absolutely freezing, there'll be a setting that suits. You can also choose from three time settings – one, three or nine hours – so you can plan precisely when the blanket will switch off.
Dreamland heated blanket review: the pros
Speedy heat up
The first thing I noticed when I turned on my heated blanket was how quickly it heated up. I thought it would be fairly warm for a while before eventually reaching maximum temperature, but it went from zero to max in just five minutes. I've tried a number of heated blankets in my time, and this one is by far the speediest. For those days when you're so cold to the core and you don't want to be waiting around, this heated blanket will get you feeling toasty in no time.
Machine washable
It definitely does feel a bit counterintuitive to put an electric throw in the washing machine, but I can confirm that I've washed mine a few times and it's absolutely fine! The blanket has remained just as luxurious wash after wash, and it's a dream to have it feeling fresh and clean for another winter season.
Good-looking
Some electric blankets are clearly made for practical purposes only – to plug in and keep you warm – and that's all well and good. But this design takes all the necessary practicality and combines it with a chunky and luxurious shell that you can keep out on display.
With an Alaskan Husky pattern and a neutral colourway, this heated blanket adds texture and warmth to my neutral bedroom, and gives it an instantly wintry, cosy vibe. It's as much a decorative addition as it is a practical one.
It's just SO warm and weighty
Not all electric blankets are made equal, and something that struck me about this design is the high temperature. On the highest setting, it is just so, so warm – warmer than any other electric blanket I've used, and that gives this model a big tick from me.
The blanket is lined with a smooth, shorter fur on the inside and a longer, thicker fur on the outside, making it feel heavy and luxurious and the complete definition of cosy.
Dreamland heated blanket review: the cons
On the expensive side
There are many heated blankets on the market now, and with an RRP of £129.99, it's safe to say there are less costly options out there. The likes of Amazon and John Lewis have many cheaper options, so if you're on a budget, it may be worth shopping around.
That said, a heated blanket is an investment piece that you'll bring out year after year, so it is worth investing in a good one that will last. Buying several cheaper versions is a false economy that's bad for the planet and for your wallet so, as always, we recommend buying once and buying well.
Large to store
One downside to this luxuriously chunky design is that it is quite large to store throughout the summer months. It comes in a handy zip-up bag which helps to keep it clean while tucked away. But if storage is an issue, a slimmer design might be your best bet.
Dreamland heated blanket review: the verdict
Would I recommend the Dreamland Alaskan Husky electric blanket? Yes, I absolutely would. In fact, I love it so much that I bought one for my parents. It genuinely makes me happier in the winter months, as no matter how cold it is outside, or even how cold it is inside, this blanket means I'll be able to make myself warm and toasty in an instant.
I sometimes work from home, so sitting still all day at my laptop can become very chilly. But with this wrapped around me, I can keep cosy and comfy all day long without wasting money on heating the whole flat and other empty rooms.
When it's really freezing, I even use it in bed, and the one-hour timer means it will turn off soon after I've fallen asleep, so I'm not wasting electricity. Plus, the neutral colour means it sits back nicely in both my bedroom and living room, adding a cosy, alpine vibe to both spaces.
