Dua Lipa Goes Full Glam in Silver Sequins at the 2024 Grammys

Dua Lipa’s role in Barbie has made her a fixture on the red carpet as of late. Tonight, the singer leaned into her pop star roots for the 2024 Grammys, wearing custom Courrèges and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. She posed on the carpet solo and with her dad, Dukagjin Lipa. Her rumored boyfriend, Callum Turner, did not attend with her.

Lipa’s Barbie track, “Dance the Night,” is up for Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media. Lipa will be performing it at the ceremony, too.

Lipa reflected on writing “Dance the Night” at the end of her musical disco era in an interview with IndieWire published in mid-December. “In my mind, even though I was on the Future Nostalgia Tour sonically, I’d already started departing from that idea,” Lipa recalled. “So when I got asked to do this song, I was like, ‘All right, one more hurrah. Let’s get back into disco mode for a second.’ And it felt really good.”

The challenge of the track was “‘how do I do this massive moment justice with the whole cast, and create something that tells Barbie’s story?’” Lipa said. “Because essentially, in that [scene], it’s Barbie’s best day ever. How do we create a song that tells that story, that shows that sign of resilience? Where when Barbie says, ‘Have you guys ever thought about dying?,’ and all the other Barbies look to stereotypical Barbie for some kind of reassurance of, ‘What do you mean? What are you talking about?’ She saves face in a way of like, ‘Oh no, I’m just dying to dance.’ It’s the way that she shows strength even when she’s feeling otherwise. That was the whole premise of ‘Dance the Night’ as a song, of how to paint that picture of that emotion.”
