Since making landfall in the Florida panhandle on Sept. 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene has wreaked devastation in the Southern United States, particularly in states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia. Catastrophic flooding and strong winds have wiped out towns, killed more than 200 people, and left millions of people without power and basic necessities like food and water.

Amid the devastation, you might be wondering how you can help survivors of Helene recover from the storm’s damage. Although there is no easy solution, you can chip in some funds to national and regional organizations for relief efforts.

Another way to do so is by shopping Asheville, North Carolina-based ceramic dinnerware brand East Fork’s extensive Hurricane Helene relief sale. As the company’s CEO Alex Matisse announced in a blog post, all of the brand’s seconds — aka ceramics featuring small aesthetic flaws — will be available to purchase individually for 30% off their usual price.

Proceeds will go toward paying East Fork’s staff and non-deferrable bills to keep the company and its community going, and five percent of sales will be donated evenly across BeLoved Asheville, Poder Emma, and Equal Plates Project, all of which are at the forefront of local Asheville relief organizing. At this time, East Fork is unable to ship out orders (for obvious reasons), and will do so once they’re able to.

“All of us in our community play a special role in making [Western North Carolina] what it is. Our role is manufacturing beautiful pottery,” Matisse wrote. “I’m so proud of what we’ve built at East Fork, and I want so badly to keep making pots here in our mountain home, where we’ll be banding together with our neighbors to organize, grieve, scream, share resources, and rebuild.”
