Echoes of Diana's death in Meghan and Harry's Netflix docuseries as car followed in unseen footage

The second trailer for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix documentary has dropped, revealing a darker look into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with the press and scarily echoes that of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

“The pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution…,” says Harry in the second trailer for the royal couple’s highly anticipated documentary, referring to the constant buzz of paparazzi and press surrounding the female members of the Royal Family “a feeding frenzy”.

However, it was one particularly fearful moment with the press that sadly reflected that of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997 after being chased by paparazzi on motorcycles through the streets of Paris.

Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, are seen in the back of a vehicle, looking slightly concerned, before turning to look behind them, where another car can be seen following them.

“I realised, [the Firm] are never going to protect you,” says Meghan’s voice over the top.

The Netflix documentary, entitled Harry & Meghan, has been billed as a fly-on-the-wall look at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship, and ultimately their departure as working royals from the Royal Family.

The couple moved from the UK to California in 2020, after choosing to “step back” as senior royals whilst “continuing to support the Queen”, and explained their reasons for leaving in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

Harry explained that part of their reasons for leaving the Royal Family were due to a “lack of support and lack of understanding” and that he had to remove his family from the press situation in the UK because he “could see where this was headed,” in what could be a reference to the struggles of his late mother, Princess Diana.

“I was terrified,” Harry adds in the Netflix clip. “I didn’t want history to repeat itself.”
