This Eco-Conscious Home in the Hamptons Has Radiant-Heated Floors Throughout

What’s more compelling than a house that resembles a game of Tetris?

Those in favor of a modern, energy-efficient statement over traditional architecture will find a recently listed estate in the Hamptons of interest, especially given that its unconventional design incorporates a 12-kilowatt solar panel system and a geothermal climate control system that heats all of the floors. But that’s not all the $3.19 million listing held by Mercedes Counihan and Garret Pike of Corcoran has to offer.

The secluded five-bedroom geometric residence sits on an elevated section of a thickly wooded parcel just outside the bustling village, surrounded by lush lawns, towering trees, multiple decks, and a solar-heated gunite pool. A complementary secondary structure with a bathroom and a private parking area could be used as an art studio, guesthouse, or home office.

Entire walls of gridded windows fill the house with natural light.

Custom-built in 2012 with recycled aluminum panels, the home was brought to life using pre-fab home building technologies in which sections of the home were built indoors at an off-site factory over the space of five days. Six modules, each complete with electric wiring, plumbing, HVAC ductwork, and two coats of paint, were then delivered to the site and put together like a puzzle.

Much like the exterior, the home’s interior spaces prioritize the geometric aspects of its design over the inclusion of color. Moving past the foyer, it becomes abundantly clear why: the home’s abundance of windows allows the colors from its natural settings to complement the open layout. Take in the view from the living room with a gas fireplace, which sits opposite the chef’s kitchen that features a dedicated prep area and breakfast bar for quick bites.

Picturesque windows frame the spare and slightly dated primary suite on the upper floor, which has an attached bath with a steam shower. Even higher up, the rooftop deck with wraparound views into the surrounding woods provides the ideal place for year-round sun lounging and stargazing, as well as the perfect spot to survey the pool and grounds.
