CHLOÉ
Cool, clean and oh-so-fresh
The Bohemian, with her 1970s-inspired balmy lips and loose hair, has officially been crowned the It girl of the season. But she has a new mood for 2024, best encapsulated by the Chloé show, where the diktat demanded an ‘audacious and strong’ attitude instead of a bold make-up ‘look’. For inspiration, look to Doutzen Kroes, who wore Sisley Phyto-Blush Twist to create a sun-kissed, post-exercise glow on the catwalk. - Katy Young, Beauty Director
Pro Tip
‘I sparingly applied foundation over the blusher to create a flush that appeared to come from within.’– Aaron de Mey, make-up artist backstage at Chloé
How To Wear It
‘I brush liquid blush over my cheeks and the bridge of my nose. A shade that matches your own colour after being in the sun will look most natural.’– Katy Young
MOSCHINO
The red lip is here to stay
Gwyneth Paltrow once said that beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin – or a kick-ass red lipstick. As a fair-skinned person, I’ve long avoided a red lip for fear of it washing me out or exaggerating my occasional flushed cheeks. That was until I saw Moschino’s play with the hue: glossy, and paired with bushy, brushed-out brows and dewy skin sans blusher. It will be my go-to beauty hack this autumn when I need a pop of colour. - Katie O’Malley, Site Editor
Pro Tip
‘Use your lip liner after lipstick. Apply a generous sweep [of colour] over the lips and press together, then sharpen the outer edges of your lip using a pencil.’ – Marc Sinclair, a pro artist for MAC Cosmetics
How To Wear It
‘I’ll try a punchy scarlet lip against a healthy, even complexion and little else.’ – Katie O’Malley
CHANEL
Oceanic tones go autumnal
Chanel’s autumn/winter 2024 beauty was easy-breezy, but with a polish that could easily be recreated at home. Corals and azure tones were used on the eyes, in a nod to the glimmer of seashells, waves and pink sand. Offsetting the precision of the eye look was a soft lip with a tinted balm that’s applied straight from the bullet for a lived-in finish. - Naomi Pike, Commissioning Editor
Pro Tip
‘Eyes were delicately lined in gold lamé, with the shadow placed at the inner corner, inspired by the ever-changing colour of the sky at the coast.’ – Marco Antonio, Chanel’s UK Beauty Ambassador
How To Wear It
‘Use the pinks and blues for daytime eye looks, saving the glistening metallic-gold touches for evening moments.’ – Naomi Pike

BALMAIN
An elevated, radiant complexion
‘Even though many designers went for matte, powdered make-up looks for their autumn/winter 2024 collections, I’m not moving away from glowing, fresh skin. For the Balmain show, we made the models as luminous as possible, focusing on skin prep, highlighter and light concealer instead of heavy foundation. In real life, drawing attention to lashes allows you to add depth around the eyes without using much make-up. My collaboration with Lashify has an edge lash that mimics the effect of a winged eyeliner.’ - Isamaya Ffrench, make-up artist and founder of Isamaya
Pro Tip
‘For an extra glow, I used MAC’s Hyper Real Serumizer as a primer and Strobe Cream on the high points of the face.’ – Isamaya Ffrench, make-up artist
How To Wear It
‘I love to put liquid highlighters on the eyelids, too, for a fresh, sexy look.’
DIOR
Punchy pinks reign supreme
Hot fuchsia is back, thanks to Dior. Make-up artist Peter Philips stamped a jubilant thumbprint of magenta in the inner corners of the eyes, inspired by prints seen on Dior foulards; Marc Bohan’s scarves served as the colour inspiration for designer Maria Grazia Chiuri. The insouciant touch of cyclamen – applied freehand with a flat concealer brush – feels anything but saccharine when paired with bare lashes and fresh skin. - Medina Azaldin, Beauty Editor
Pro Tip
‘On darker skin tones, I used a pale eye base before applying the colour pigment (for better intensity).’ – Peter Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup
How To Wear It
‘Brown mascara, gleaming cheekbones and a gentle lip tint keep things natural, but still polished.’ – Medina Azaldin
ERDEM
The cat eye takes centre-stage
‘I rebel with lace and tulle,’ the designer Erdem Moralıoğlu once said, and there’s always a kind of subtle subversion in his darkly romantic vision. For AW24, he chose the operatic diva Maria Callas as his muse. The make-up was simple – dewy skin and a defined, elongated black cat eye – but it was the hair that I’m going to copy. Inspired by a backstage image of Callas after a performance, models wore mesh hairbands with slicked-back, twisted chignons. It’s a very chic severity, particularly when contrasted with a more elaborate dress. - Avril Mair, Fashion Director
Pro Tip
‘I was inspired to create Maria Callas’ iconic eye make-up with a modern twist. It’s a graphic liner, paired with a strong angled brow and semi-matte skin.’– Amy Conway, Bobbi Brown Global Pro Artist
How To Wear It
‘A subtler feline flick complements clean skin and a sleek bun.’ – Avril Mair
