Ever since Britney Spears released her best-selling (and iconic) memoir, The Woman In Me, the world has been screaming for a movie adaptation. Thankfully, earlier this month our prayers were answered when it was announced that - after an expected studio bidding war - Universal bagged the rights to the film, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu confirmed as developer and director.

Obviously, this buzz then hard-launched the most important question of all: who will play the Princess of Pop?

One of the first names to enter the ring, thanks to Britney's former assistant Felicia Culotta, was Emma Roberts. She previously admitted to TMZ that she thought the American Horror Story star would be perfect for the role, particularly due to her similar childhood stardom as the lead in the Nickelodeon show, Unfabulous. (As we all know, Britney first rose to fame on Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club.)

And, Emma has now responded to these rumours, telling Cosmopolitan US that it would be her 'true dream to play Britney Spears'.

Confessing that, at this point, 'it's just a rumour,' the 33-year-old did showcase her commitment to the role, admitting that she's been a super fan all her life. She reminisced: 'I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone [Britney's 2003 studio album] and said, "I cannot leave this room until I memorise every word."'

Emma then shared that she's been trying to pass on her love of Britney to her three-year-old son, Rhodes. She joked: 'I mean, I sing Britney to my son in the bath all the time. I'm always like, "God, he must think I'm so weird." That's some millennial parenting.'
