EmRata Was So Unhappy at the End of Her Marriage That She Weighed 100 Pounds
Emily Ratajkowski revealed what it took to end her marriage with Sebastian Bear-McClard while appearing on podcast Going Mental.
The My Body author opened up about her separation from Bear-McClard, with whom she shares two-year-old son Sylvester Apollo, during her interview with host Eileen Kelly. Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard split in 2022 after four years of marriage.
"I didn't have the courage to leave for a long time. I was really, really unhappy and I was like 100 pounds and I just had a baby and I got really skinny because I was not okay," she said. "I tried everything else. I tried to take antidepressants. I was sure something was wrong with me."
Despite the hardship she experienced toward the end of their relationship, Ratajkowski says she was better for it. "So much of what I learned of coming out of that relationship is to trust your instincts and gaslighting is a real thing," she continued. "I didn't understand that it was actually gonna be so nice to come back to myself and return back to how I see the world, how I understand things, my instincts."
She refused to specify what led her to ultimately walk away from the marriage, citing her desire to protect her son's privacy and "legal reasons" since the two are not yet "officially divorced."
Still, she alluded that certain boundaries were crossed by the time the relationship was over. "I'm a very on-and-off person. I will literally sit with people that I love—friends, family, whatever—for so long, and then if there's a line that's crossed, I'm like, 'Okay. That was it,'" she said. "For me, it was so clear and then it just became clearer and clearer and clearer."
Reports of infidelity emerged soon after Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard's impending divorce was announced last year. Kelly expressed how shocking the cheating rumors were, saying, "If she could get cheated on, we're all fucked."
Ratajkowski responded, "It was so interesting that that was the reaction to that news because I was just like, 'Duh. Men are trash, ladies.' And it doesn't matter who you are, how perfect you are, whatever."
While she can't talk about why she chose to walk away, she hinted that she's open to discussing the divorce in the future. "That's how I process things," Ratajkowski said. "I would probably write about it, if anything."
Ratajkowski has most recently been linked to comedian Eric André.
During the interview, she spoke about the current man in her life, though she left him unnamed.
"I just started dating someone that I kind of like," she told Kelly. "But, if you talked to me four weeks ago, I would've been like, 'Absolutely [get the ick].' Now, I'm just like, 'Oh, well, he's kind of great.'"
She previously talked about being single for Harper's BAZAAR's November 2022 cover story.
"I can tell you that I have never been single before," she said at the time. "I feel all the emotions. I feel anger, sadness. I feel excitement. I feel joy. I feel levity. Every day is different. The only good thing I know is that I'm feeling all those things, which is nice because it makes me believe that I'll be okay."
