Evangeline Lilly Opens Up About Attending a Rally Against COVID Vax Mandates
Evangeline Lilly is no stranger to the press. The star of Ant-Man: Quantumania has been a Hollywood celebrity ever since her 2004 debut on Lost. Last year, Lilly received backlash for attending a rally against vaccine mandates, which she later posted about on Instagram. The controversial post shared a collection of pictures from a rally in DC, starting with a person who held a sign that read, “Vaxxed Democrat for Medical Freedom.”
Lilly paired the photos with a message to her followers. “I was in DC this weekend to support bodily sovereignty while Canadian truckers were rallying for their cross-country, peaceful convoy in support of the same thing,” she wrote. “I believe nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will, under threat of: violent attack, arrest or detention without trial, loss of employment, homelessness, starvation, loss of education, alienation from loved ones, excommunication from society, under any threat whatsoever.”
“This is not the way. This is not safe. This is not healthy. This is not love,” Lilly continued. “I understand the world is in fear, but I don’t believe that answering fear with force will fix our problems. “I was pro choice before COVID and I am still pro choice today,” she concluded.
In a new interview with Esquire, Lilly revealed her thought process at the time. She explained that she went back and forth on posting “about six hundred times,” before sharing her views. “I know the beast that I’m attacking,” she said, recalling her mindset at the time. “I know that I have a little pebble and there’s this fucking Goliath giant. If I shoot this pebble, it’s going to wake the giant.”
Ultimately, Lilly decided to publish. “I just wanted people out there who were struggling because they were under severe pressure to do something they didn’t want to do to know that they weren’t alone, to know there were people who actually felt they had a right to say no,” she said.
