Something interesting is happening to pants. If you’ve noticed that the once ubiquitous sea of wide-leg, oversize, and barrel jeans seems to be getting skinnier and skinnier, you’re not alone. Celebrities from Bella Hadid to Zoe Saldaña are championing the anti-baggy pants trend, and now it looks like the revival has even received a royal stamp of approval.

Duchess Meghan leaned into the bootcut comeback during one of her most recent outings at the 2025 Invictus Games in Canada. On Sunday, the royal stepped out hand-in-hand with husband Prince Harry to attend a wheelchair basketball match. She dressed casually for the occasion, selecting a navy blue knit sweater and a pair of dark-wash bootcut jeans. She finished the look off with black suede boots with block heels and diamond stud earrings. Earlier in the day, Meghan layered her sweater underneath a light gray blazer with a suede brown collar for a more polished look.

Bootcut silhouettes are slowly making their way back into the trend cycle. Just last night, Harper’s Bazaar’s November 2024 cover star Kendrick Lamar delivered his highly-anticipated Super Bowl Halftime performance while wearing a slouchy pair of faded bootcut jeans from Celine.

The Duchess of Sussex herself is known to favor both wide-leg and skinny pants. Upon marrying into the British royal family back in 2018, Meghan revamped royal women’s working uniform by making chic wide-leg trousers a staple in her wardrobe. But, over the years, she hasn’t forgotten about her sartorial roots; the duchess often still steps out in her tried-and-true pairs of skinny jeans.
