Events held to mark Lunar New Year in Jersey

A number of events are being held to mark the Lunar New Year in Jersey.

Educational group Learn.je said it wanted the schedule to bring a "vibrant and immersive cultural experience to Jersey", including workshops, performances and storytelling.

Its main event on Sunday is a performance by the Guizhou Acrobatic Troupe, "renowned for their breath-taking fusion of Chinese folklore, movement, and artistry".

Jersey Opera House will be providing technical assistance.

'Evolving cultural landscape'

The Lunar New Year started on Wednesday and marked the change from the Year of the Dragon to the Year of the Snake.

On 8 February there are children's creative sessions at Jersey Museum scheduled and there are also plans for a session where adults can learn the techniques of traditional Chinese painting, said organisers.

Victoria Li, event organiser, said: "Lunar New Year is a time of reflection, connection, and renewal.

"As we celebrate the Year of the Snake, we are embracing wisdom and transformation - values that resonate deeply with Jersey's evolving cultural landscape.

"Through performance, storytelling, and community-led experiences, we aim to bring people together, fostering understanding and creativity across generations."
