Is it ever OK to bathe with your kids? TV presenter stirs controversy

The topic of whether or not it is wrong for parents to share baths with their teenagers was discussed on a recent episode of the U.K. show “Loose Women,” — and although many viewers were horrified at the idea of such an invasion of privacy, TV presenter Stacey Solomon told the panel she’s still fine taking baths with her 9 and 5-year-old sons.

“I’m not horrified at all,” said Solomon, who recently shared an Instagram photo of her taking a bath with her kids. “Anyone who is horrified at the thought of parents sharing a bath with their children, I think, has issues.”

During bathtime, the mom of two jokes that her 9-year-old sometimes asks her to cover her chest with the bubble bath as he doesn’t want to see her body. However, Solomon wonders why the body has to be a sexual thing.

“Why cant it just be the human body? Why is it not normal?” she asked.

Some said she needs to teach her kids about boundaries and privacy.

“This is wrong on so many levels,” one critic commented on the photo.

However, parents aren’t against bathing with their children suggest that anyone offended has a “twisted mind.”

“There is absolutely nothing wrong bathing with your babies,” one user commented, while another said the photo brought back old memories: “One of my most favourite memories as a child was jumping in the bath with my mom or my grandma! Thanks for sharing.”

Solomon told the panel that she posted that photo because bathtime is a normal thing in her house — It’s almost like having dinner, or going to bed and reading bedtime stories.

“Having bathtime is how we communicate and socialize and that’s a massive part of our daily routine.”

Bathtime with your child is one thing, but many “Loose Women” viewers were against the idea of parents and teens sharing baths, which is what the show’s initial poll was about.

When polled on whether there is anything wrong with the notion, more than 90 per cent of respondents voted against it.

“I’d have gone right off on Stacy Solomon!” one woman commented on the Facebook poll. “Why oh why does she think it is OK to sit in a bath naked with your teenage son or daughter! I work in protecting children and if one of them disclosed this I would be flagging this up to the authorities.”

To be fair, Solomon didn’t say she would bathe with her teenage sons, but it does beg the question: is it ever OK to bathe with your kids? How old is too old?
