As the old adage goes, a good boot, like a good man, is hard to find.

My shoe collection consists of multiple pairs of what to the untrained eye looks like the same pair of ankle booties, but actually serve specific functions: A pair of rain ankle booties, flat ankle booties, ankle booties with a block heel, “fancy” ankle booties, causal ankle booties, broken in ankle booties and uncomfortable ankle booties that look good so I refuse to part with them.

Despite the aforementioned options, I struggled to choose the perfect pair to wear for an upcoming work trip to New York. I needed something that was going to be comfortable, but polished enough to take meetings. Enter: the Editor Boot from Everlane.

I had worn the Everlane booties several times to work and out with friends and have always considered them comfortable. But a day of walking around New York? That’s a whole other ball game.

I landed in New York and hit the ground running. A whirlwind 10 hours in Manhattan and 20,000 steps later, my feet were ready for a few more laps around Central Park. I was shocked that I wasn’t in any kind of pain or discomfort. Usually after a day on my feet, unless I’m wearing my comfiest pair of sneakers, I’m ready to kick off my shoes and run barefoot like a hobbit. Whether it was the heel height or the perfect alignment of the planets, as soon as I returned home I told my friends that this was the perfect, walkable bootie.

The sleek pointed toe, slight kitten heel and soft Italian leather make the Editor Boot the perfect pick for any outfit or occasion. I’m usually a size 8 in shoes, but decided to size up to an 8.5 as the brand recommends since the boots tend to run narrow and I have a wide foot. I’m glad I did because I was able to wear sockettes comfortably and didn’t feel as though my shoes were too tight. The heel elevates the boot from a more casual, Chelsea boot, but at 40mm, it’s definitely doable for people who tend to avoid heels (like me).

It turns out I’m not alone in my love of the Editor Boot. Everlane shoppers have given them a solid 4.69 star rating out of 5.

“Absolutely beautiful boots that will go with everything in your closet. Surprisingly so comfortable-- I walked for hours in these guys with no pain/ discomfort,” one shopper wrote.

Another added, “These boots are perfect for elevating a look while still being super comfortable. I wish I had gotten them sooner. My favourite boot in my wardrobe.
