Everything You Need To Know About Sophie Turner's Upcoming True Crime Series
Sansa Stark is set to graduate once and for all from the set of Game Of Thrones to the streets of 1980s London, as actress Sophie Turner prepares to star in ITV’s newest drama, Joan.
The six-part thriller series, which began filming in May 2023, tells the story of notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington, who is known as one of Britain's most notorious diamond thieves and earned herself the moniker of 'The Godmother.'
In a statement, Turner said, 'I’m so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to screen in Joan.
'A woman who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all whilst trying to get her daughter back from social services, we see a mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime.'
Gripping true crime storyline aside, Turner's more-is-more costumes from the series - all 1980s bouffant hair and XXL shoulder pads - are reason enough to tune in. Here's everything you need to know about Joan.
What is ITV series Joan about?
As per ITV’s official synopsis, the drama will introduce us to Hannington in her 20s as a ‘fiery, uncompromising and intoxicating character, who is not without her own deep scars and vulnerability’.
Describing her as ‘a doting and loving young mother to four-year-old Debbie’, it adds that we will find Joan in a ‘disastrous marriage to a violent thug, and when he goes on the run, Joan seizes the moment to leave her old life’.
‘Inspired by her desire to care for Debbie and create a secure home for her daughter, Joan makes some heart-breaking decisions as she sets her sights on a better life,’ it concludes.
Who will star in Joan?
Starring alongside Turner are Frank Dillane, who will star as her on-screen love interest, London antique dealer Boisie; Kirsty J Curtis as Hannington's older sister, Nancy; Gershwyn Eustache Jr. as Boisie’s old acquaintance with a new life in Spain, Albie; and Laura Aikman as Albie’s wife, Val.
When will Joan be released?
The drama will hit the small screen via ITVX on January 24, 2024.
