Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about taking a barre class

Great news! It turns out you don’t have to be a dancer to get an amazing workout from a barre class. We teamed up with Paige Carper from Pure Barre in Toronto to learn about the fundamentals of a barre workout and broke them down into photos so you can try them at home. 

Many may be surprised to find that there is very little dancing at a barre class. Instead, the focus is on small, safe movements that work different muscle groups.

“The idea is to work the muscle until it’s fatigued, and then we release and stretch it out,” Carper explains. “Ideally, we’d like to find that fatigue early – within the first four repetitions you should start to feel that shake – and then if you’re able to stick with it, you’ll really start to see the results of that work.”
