Exclusive video: Alexandra Daddario talks us through her beauty bag
How does an Emmy-nominated actress start the day? For Alexandra Daddario, it’s de-puffing eye masks (specifically Pixi DextoxifEye patches) that get to work as she sips her morning coffee. In fact, Daddario is rather a master of laid-back beauty rituals. “I make exercise and joy a part of my beauty routine, even more so as I get older” she tells Bazaar in the latest episode of out Inside My Beauty Bag video series. “It makes everything feel a lot simpler.”
The power of a grounding routine has become even more apparent to Daddario in recent years, which have seen the actress’ career soar to new heights (including the aforementioned awards nomination for her role as Rachel Patton in the first season of The White Lotus) as well as the arrival of her first child.
This extends to practical considerations – she has a hand sanitiser in every bag (“I like the ones that smell good”) and is never without Bach Rescue Remedy (“so I can be chill”) – and she shares her beauty philosophy too. “Whether you’re getting older or you’re pregnant, which are things I’ve dealt with in the past couple of years, you’re beautiful the way that you are and you should just do what makes you feel good. Don’t succumb to the pressure of the society around us”, she urges.
In the list of things that make Daddario feel good are daily yoga and meditation, and unsurprisingly given her hectic schedule, sleep: “I feel at my most beautiful when I’m at home with loved ones and when I’ve had enough sleep. If I’m tired, I do not feel very beautiful!”.
Her signature beauty look is determinedly “down to earth” and casual; “the products I buy are minimalistic, but they enhance what I’m already working on”, she says. The red carpet, however, calls for a red lip, while her everyday lipstick go-to is Dior Addict Lip Glow, of which she has at least two in her beauty bag at any one time (“they’re moisturising and come in a million colours; you can’t go wrong”).
Similarly handy is the brand’s Forever Skin Perfect Foundation Stick, which she praises for its creamy texture and the fact that “it covers anything that might be giving me trouble, especially when I’m travelling.” The neat packaging also helps her to swerve her beauty pet hate, namely lids popping off of products while you’re in transit.
When it comes to washing her make-up off at the end of the day, Daddario’s routine is equally streamlined. “Vintner’s Daughter Active Renewal Cleanser is a must and the oil [Active Botanical Serum], which I’ve run out of on this trip, is amazing too”. She’s a fan of gua sha facial massage for getting a glow, favouring PMD Rose Quartz Gua Sha thanks to the fact that the handle means that it doesn’t slip as you glide it across your facial contours. “You could also use it as a weapon”, she adds. Her beauty watchword may be minimalism, but she’s not here to play.
As for all things playful, she’s embraced scrunchies “for bringing back the Eighties” and stashes a pretty comb and pastel hair slides in her bag to keep her hair neat and away from her face now that it’s at a longer length than previously.

While Daddario’s overall approach to her appearance may be low key, that’s not to say that her personal style hasn’t evolved in recent years. “I didn’t think that I knew much about fashion” she tells us. “I thought ‘Oh, I’m an actress, what I dress in doesn't matter. Someone will dress me and that’ll become the character that I am,’” she continues. “In my everyday life, especially as I get older, I’m starting to realise that the clothes that I buy and the fashion and make-up I wear is shaping me as a woman. So, I’ve definitely changed my approach.”
Exercising autonomy over her aesthetic has clearly been liberating, but just as important is “spending time focusing on how feel you rather than what you look like”. As always, the beauty’s in the balance.
