This famous Italian restaurant from Argentina opens first U.S. location in Miami

Argentina’s elegant, celebrity-magnet Piegari Ristorante has finally made its move to North America.

First stop: Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, which is growing more upscale by the second.

The elegant Italian restaurant, which has been an iconic spot since it opened in Buenos Aires in 1994, has been planning to open in Miami for a long time, according to owner Alberto Chinkies.

“We are thrilled,” he said. “We can finally treat locals and visitors to the extraordinary dining and hospitality we work so hard every day to deliver.”

Designed in natural tones, the restaurant seats 160 diners at tables, booths and banquettes. There’s also a separate bar that seats 16.

The menu features the Argentine restaurant’s signature dishes, with homemade pastas like the pomodoro, spinach and ricotta ravioli and squid ink fettuccine with shrimp in creamy lemon garlic sauce and topped with caviar.

The restaurant also serves signature risottos, including a seafood riosotta, a primavera with seasonal vegetables and another with ragu of sirloin or lamb. Other dishes include Dover sole with mugnaia sauce, salt-encrusted branzino and veal chop with sage, shallots and roasted potatoes.

Piegari is also known for its desserts like crepes alla mela, which are flambeed at the table, and vulcano al cioccolato, a rich chocolate dessert with vanilla ice crime. You’ll also find the requisite tiramisu and flan.

It goes without saying this sort of upscale dining experience comes with special cocktails, but let’s say it anyway. The Piegari Spritz comes with clementine juice, prosecco and citris cordial. The Let That Man-Go could be the perfect antidote to this summer’s tragic mango season: The cocktail is made with Centinela reposada tequila, fresh mango, ginger falernum, lime juice and agave nectar.
